Good thing we have babies to do Vday justice! ;) I think because Tyler is a rockstar husband all of the other days, I assumed that he'd just get it. He didn't. I mean, Valentine's Day is not about the gifts, it is about showing the ones you love how much you care for them. You want your loved ones to feel loved.
For Tyler, I bought him a nalgene bottle. He needed one, but would never go out about buy one that wasn't a dollar at Walmart, so I went onto Amazon (love!) and found a cool color and had it shipped here ASAP! (Okay, so I wasn't super-prepared this year!) ;)
It wasn't fancy, but I filled it with festive m&m's. Fun! (I really wanted to buy personalized m&m's, but Mary talked me out of that $80 purchase, "Tyler does not care what the m&m's look like when he is just going to eat them!" Good call.
So the night before, I set up all the goodies for Tyler, Scarlett, and Poppy:
Favorite child?! Not really...Poppy was only 3 months! She won't know any better! |
I went to bed thinking about the fun day ahead and how excited and curious I was about the gift Tyler had brought home for me because Mary had been talking it up big time! I knew that there wouldn't be lots of lovey-dovey romance because Tyler had to work all day and we have a million babies, but I was still looking forward to a fun-filled day!
We all woke up and went downstairs to our their gifts...tradition in our family is you wake up to fun surprises that make you happy all day. There may be a special dinner later, but vday festivities happen in the morning! (We've been doing this for my whole childhood and the ten years that Tyler and I have been together!)
After looking over all their treasures, Tyler whips out some Palmer chocolates (that his company had given him! I found that out later...blech.) and a card from Scarlett. Sweet!
Then he ran upstairs... *I was feeling giddy!!!*
And brought back down a new cell phone. Another new cell phone since that was my Christmas gift also...that he planned on inheriting after I set up my new cell. Huh.
Thoughtful ish because it has Windows 8, which I love, but still...where are my flowers & (real) chocolates??! Men! He thought he had rocked it. So that was sweet...and a little sad for him when I wasn't jumping up and down.
Luckily, my mom really did rock it out for me:
Yesssss! ;) |
So that was my Valentine's Day 2013...not really a fail, but I didn't feel special. THAT is what was missing.
It was really not great for Tyler either...he was working as himself and doing the work of his boss while his boss was away, so he didn't get home until 7:30 and didn't stop working until 11:30. That part was a major fail.
On a happier note:
We had a photographer come to our cupcake decorating fiesta at my mom's house -- wicked fun! There was also a dance party! We had just a group of little girls dancing and playing and eating yummies -- best little girl Valentine's Day for sure!!!
All of the pictures are fantastic, but here is my favorite...
